The most productive water within day-trip range of Benoa, Serangan, and Sanur is the Badung Strait and the Nusa Penida side of the Lombok Strait. The seabed here falls away sharply into deep, current-swept channels, which is why the drop-offs off Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan hold dogtooth tuna, giant trevally, and pelagics for much of the year. Closer to shore, the reefs off Sanur and the Benoa channel mouth produce consistent bottom fishing on short half-day runs.
